Welcome to the SJRail.com Wiki! (CENTER Tower and Interlocking Page)
Center Interlocking
could be referred to as the funnel for the Camden Terminal operation.
Owned by the PRR, it had PRR keystone station signs and was manned by PRR operators. All routes leading to and from Camden Terminal came through this interlocking. This includes the..
- P.R.S.L. 's
- Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines (Main Line)
- Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR)'s
- Camden and Amboy Railroad (Bordentown Branch)
- Camden and Burlington County Railroad Company (Pemberton Branch).
The Division Post was at MP 1.03 which was in the curve behind the tower leading to the P.R.S.L.
In today’s terminology the P.R.S.L. had trackage rights over the PRR from CENTER into Camden and into Pavonia. CENTER could probably be termed a “joint facility” since it controlled signals and switches at the divide between the Main Line and the Van Hook St. Cutoff, present day MILL.
On January 16, 1966 Center Interlocking was closed due to the construction of the PATCO Hi-Speedline to Lindenwold, and was subsequently demolished.
As of 2009 there is no signs of the Center Interlocking location.
