Vernon Tower and Interlocking
Vernon Tower and Interlocking: Located at MP17.4 from Suburban Station or MP 6.1 from Camden. Was the south/east
end of the DRRR&BCo. The division point was 969 feet north of Vernon Tower. The tower
was manned 24/7 by one operator who had control of a five lever US&S interlocking machine. The operator at Vernon had a couple of side duties - operation of the crossing protection at Mt. Vernon Ave. by a hand
pump. They also had control of the high voltage line in the area on the Westville cutoff. And also were
to announce the Passenger trains at the Haddonfield station when the agent was not on duty, 7 days a
week. On January 16, 1966 Vernon was closed due to the construction of the PATCO line to Lindenwold, and was subsequently demolished.
As of 2009 there is no signs of the Vernon Tower and Interlocking location.

Haddonfield Station
This was the first passenger stop south of VERNON Tower (West Haddonfield) at the junction between the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines (Main Line) from Camden to Atlantic City and the PRR/PC (D.R.R.R.&B.CO. Branch) to Philadelphia. Local passenger train during the day were operated from Camden (usually 500 series passenger trains) to connect with the shore bound trains from Philadelphia,(usually 1000 series passenger trains). This connection developed the need for the crossover and the wye for turning passenger trains. Control of these moves was under the control of the operator at VERNON Tower.
